Darn it, Tau! You got the even number! Now I'm stuck with 3,001 :(

Ah well. I win anyway.

Devon 02-10-2009 10:37 AM

3,002 here! Yippee!

Tau 02-10-2009 10:54 AM

The question now is how long will it take to get to post 4000?

Val Jester 02-10-2009 11:07 AM

Devon
yep, that's the guy. What a charmer eh?

Firefly 02-10-2009 12:50 PM

What? I missed the 3000 post milestone? :( Darn it!

Val Jester 02-10-2009 01:08 PM

aww Firefly *pats you on the back*, there's always 4000!

Slick-Jimmy 02-10-2009 01:15 PM

I get 3007! Seven is lucky! Yay!

Jimmy Out!

El902 02-10-2009 01:30 PM

I thought seven was unlucky? Like break a mirror and it's seven years of bad luck?...

Trivia: Does anyone know why that saying came about? Betcha don't (and if you do don't spoil my fun in thinking that I know everything and the world knows nothing. It's not denial, I'm just selective about what aspects of reality I accept).

Val Jester 02-10-2009 01:32 PM

No, I don't El, please enlighten!

Slick-Jimmy 02-10-2009 01:42 PM

Seven is luck! Damn it! I'll break a mirror to prove it! Smash!!!
See?!!!

(Jimmy gets hit by a bus full of Girls Gone Wild Chicks in sexy Catholic schoolgirl uniforms!!! [Hey! It's my fantasy! So whatever!])

See!!! Lucky!!!

Jimmy Out!

Paramore_addict 02-10-2009 01:49 PM

I built a new tank, what do you guys think of it

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...y/DSC07335.jpg

It's awesome, isn't it?

Val Jester 02-10-2009 02:04 PM

Pro PA. Very pro.

HoiLei 02-10-2009 04:45 PM

El! I demand to know the origin of the seven years bad luck thing! NOW!

(There, do you feel needed? :D)

Winterbite 02-10-2009 05:06 PM

Scurries to post. Ooh, ooh, this was part of my Intensive Trivia class! Uh...this may end up being screwy, because I read this a long time ago, but some ancient culture, after just developing a mirror, was so amazed by seeing their own reflection that they couldn't believe that it wasn't another person on the other side...or something. Anyway, that sort've switched to "the person in the mirror is another part of your soul". So, if you broke a mirror while looking in it, you were breaking a bit of your soul into tiny pieces.

As for seven years, I'm pretty sure that they thought that the soul was reborn or replaced or some "re" thing every seven years, thus you'd get your soul back then. That begs the question, though, couldn't you just break it on December 31st of the sixth year and get away with a few moments of bad luck? :D

*shatters El's delusions like a mirror* :D

HoiLei 02-10-2009 05:15 PM

I'll be honest, Winterbite, my BS-meter went off just now. I was expecting something more along the lines of "It was meant to keep people from breaking expensive, silver-coated mirrors". So... are you making that up or is it for real? *skeptical look*

Of course, if it is true, I think the regeneration of the soul would be timed seven years after its destruction. I don't think there are Dec. 31st loopholes, since the soul can hardly be expected to follow our calendar.

Winterbite 02-10-2009 05:21 PM

I probably should've sounded much more certain. Well, this is the part where I trot off to a search engine and find out (Someone on the internet said it! It must be true!). If I'm wrong, you'll know because I won't be back. If I'm right, I will' be cackling like there's no tomorrow :D

HoiLei 02-10-2009 05:22 PM

Cackling, huh? Don't forget to say "I told you so"; every loves that. :D

Winterbite 02-10-2009 05:25 PM

I told you so! *Cackles madly*

Here's one fellow saying essentially the same thing.

And here's a much more official-looking answer :) Along with a remedy! Good news for the clumsy types.

HoiLei 02-10-2009 05:30 PM

I am suitibly corrected! We have no humble pie smiley, so I'll pay a cookie forfeit: :cookie2: :cookie3:

Winterbite 02-10-2009 05:40 PM

What does humble pie look like, anyway? I've always imagined it with sort of a lemon meringue look. Or maybe it's just a small pie groveling before a larger one :D

We do accept Visa, Mastercard, and cookies. Royal we :D

Slick-Jimmy 02-10-2009 08:18 PM

Silly Moderators, and their trivia tangents...Hee-Hee!

Mortimer 02-10-2009 08:27 PM

The world only spans for the course of my life, for I am the alpha and the omega.

Slick-Jimmy 02-10-2009 08:32 PM

Tah-Dah!!! A Mortimer-centric world view, everyone!!!

Jimmy Out!

Mortimer 02-10-2009 08:36 PM

You should try it out sometime, everything makes sense.

Slick-Jimmy 02-10-2009 09:12 PM

Oh I know, Mort. Do I ever! You just don't realize the big, bad, ol' Universe revolves around sweet, lil' ol' ME!

Jimmy Out! :D

Tau 02-10-2009 11:38 PM

If the universe did revolve around you then you would be the centre of all gravity, so if I drop a ball it should fall towards you and not the ground, plus light could not escape you, so people would not be able to see you.

SW 02-11-2009 12:12 AM

Darn!

Well, first one into the third millennium. :D

Slick-Jimmy 02-11-2009 12:30 AM

Oh, Tau, you're just jealous that I'm a extradimensional being that self-realized itself at the center of this tiny, little universe, when in actuality in the vast sphere of multiverse existence, I am infinitely larger than this quaint provincial reality. :D See? Neat, Huh?

Jimmy Out.

Mortimer 02-11-2009 02:29 AM

See it's funny because really, I am in charge. I just let you all live here.

Also Tau, I have a perfectly good explanation for all of those things. I just can't explain it for it would shatter the mind of a mortal, and really I like you too much to shatter your mind.

Slick-Jimmy 02-11-2009 02:45 AM

I'll let Mort have his illusions (delusions?) of grandeur, as it amuses me to do so. I'm magnanimous that way.

Hee-Hee! :D

Jimmy Out.
