A truly excellent writer. She makes the voice of the na´ve, young male narrator in this story so convincing.

A hint, or more than a hint, of the macabre seems to run through most of her stories, something which she handles better than most other writers I've come across. The likes of 'The Birds', 'Don't Look Now' and 'The Apple Tree' are also outstanding examples among her short stories.
