Yes, writing to haphazard 'prompts' is good. Gets me writing stuff I would never ever have thought of and a good opportunity to experiment. Keeping appropriately 'on topic' so that readers can clearly see and understand how the 'prompt' is utilised, is the biggest challenge I find.
