Icon1 All Men Are Created Equal?

is this a bold statement or
a sweeping generalisation?

I personally don't get the logic behind it.

All men are not created equal, but this is a core statement wrt the way we govern under the English common law system we employ in the West. The basis of our legal system is predicated on this statement. So, itís not a statement of reality, as much as one of policy, ideology.

I understand now. This is to go against the idea that people are not created equal??
How is one not born equal to another?

what is WRT?

also
How does that sit with
the right to bare arms?

Equality has little to do with east, west, north, south. Or time: 2000 B.C. or 2000 A.D. It is all about the big fish eating the little fish. And always will be.

Thomas Jefferson gets credited with that quote, but it really came from the mind of his friend, an Italian named Filipo Mazzei.

I never heard of Filipo Mazzei.
That is a bit rich crediting it to Jefferson though.

Does it matter? It was a shitty quote, not worthy of any attention. :P

I would have thought Thomas Jefferson must have been having an off day.

No he just couldn't be bothered.
It is ironic that equality and machismo is linked.
At the end of the day machismo has a lot to be desired when it comes to women and the Mediterranean.
Then comes Mussolini.
That is not to generalise however. It is just a remark.

There's no way that quote made it through 250 years.

That's right. It should have died after year one. Horrendous.

Say it really loud. It sounds kind of like a football cheer.

That is not to say it is just them it is mostly everywhere so it makes me doubt the origin of the quote.
Nacia, it is easy to get into trouble when you say unkind things about groups of people. During WW II, Italian-Americans in the hundreds of thousands enlisted in the U.S. military to overthrow Mussolini's government.

Yep. What do you want to learn? Shoot crap, play poker, rob warehouses? I could teach you a few things.

You need to shape up. I cannot believe you're a living organism.

The last two times I met people who said they could teach me anything, they were living on the street; meanwhile, I have food and a roof over my head.

I've told you before, I don't accept unsolicited advice.

The right to bare arms? Not everyone can pull off a sleeveless look, or were just a vest without anything under it.

Who cares what it looks like -- as long as the outcome is as planned?

Very true I must retrieve what I said. It is true however that machismo is a mediterranean thing.

You should have ended your statement with the period after "said."

A certain kind of machismo is part of Italian culture. You don't have to avoid acknowledging that because of superficial political correctness.

Boys will be boys. Since when does one area have a hold on masculinity?

There is a distinct difference between masculinity and machismo.

Also, if you say something exists in one "area," you are not automatically saying it doesn't exist elsewhere.

Hope that helps.
