What genres do you accept?
Before answering any questions, I am proud to announce that all submitters will receive a free subscription to the electronic version of The Real Eight View which includes one e-mail notification of every online issue published. If a poem is accepted for publication in the electronic magazine, it will then be considered for Poetry Pamphlet, an in print supplement to The Real Eight View.
Now, down to business. We accept free verse (preferred) and experimental poetry as well as rhyming and metered poetry. We accept short fiction (no novels please) and are also interested in receiving visual works of art: digital images of photos, paintings, drawings sculptures or digital art.
What themes do you accept?
Funny you should ask because we were about to tell you. For poetry and fiction we prefer to read about life experiences through the themes of resentment, romance, disappointment, spirituality, nature, sarcastic or ironic comedy or depression – something anyone can relate to.
We began accepting submissions on March 5th, 2004 and do not plan on stopping anytime soon. There is no specific cut off date for individual issues.
And how shall we submit our Real work?
Wow! You guys sure ask a lot of questions. OK. Submit your Real work as follows:
Poems may be any length with a minimum of five titles per submission and a maximum of five submissions per monthly issue. Do not attach files. Paste poems directly into the body of the e-mail message using 12 point Times New Roman font and send it to email@example.com. Make sure to include your full name and contact information in the top of the message. We would also like you to include how you heard about The Real Eight View.
Short Fiction, Essays, Interviews and Reviews
Please, only one title per submission with a maximum of five submissions per monthly issue. Attach files as a word or text document and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.. Please do not paste submission in the body of the e-mail. Make sure to include your full name, contact information and word count (2000 max) in the top of the message. We would also like you to include how you heard about The Real Eight View.
Submit a maximum of one jpeg, gif or bmp file per e-mail message with a maximum of six total images per issue and send it to email@example.com. Make sure to include your full name and contact information in the top of the message. We would also like you to include how you heard about The Real Eight View.
John, what is the meaning of life?
If you don’t know that, then we’re not going to tell you. We will tell you this: Submit yourself to The Real Eight View and your meaning may be clearer to you.
And who owns the rights to the work we submit?
Damn. Here we go with the Real legal stuff. We claim one time rights which mean the rights revert back to the author. We do reserve the right to publish in print anything that has appeared on The Real Eight View site at any time, should we in the future establish ourselves as an in-print magazine.
Just one more thing John, how long do we have to wait for a response?
We will attempt to respond to everyone within four to six weeks. Some may receive one sooner and some may receive one later. Neither is a reflection on how we view your work.
How much do you pay?
We said no more questions!
How much do you pay?
Fine! We can not, at this time, be considered a member of the paying market but are currently researching different avenues of generating income in order to pay for your work in future issues.
We ask that you stick to the guidelines as closely as possible. However, we will remain true to one basic rule: if we like it and have room for it, we will use it.
