Yes...they are still teaching it! I learned the conversion of all bases in 1978. I took a Behavioral Science Computer Literacy class in 19997, and out of 350, only 3 of us had been exposed.

Once you get the hang of them they aren't too bad... I didn't learn these in school though, or at least not in a normal math class. In fact I'm not sure where I learned them exactly.

Um....I must really suck at math, because I can't figure it out, but we're just going over this stuff in my Algrabra 2 class....crap, I don't know. I'll take 50/50.

Titania, when did you learn it? I learned it in 7th grade in 1980.

I know base 2 and 10 but I don't know about these As and Es.

I don't know that I was ever taught them specifically. I did some math competitions in middle school that used bases though, so that might have been it - they come in handy for doing random math trivia

You use letters when you run out of numbers, riverstone. If the base is something larger than 10.
