It doesn't quite work that way in Ontario. For the first year, you're only allowed to drive if there is an experienced driver in the car with you.

Default the problem with publication?!

so, I have this writer friend who has published thirty or thirty one times. The problem is that he is a social security recipient and is pretty poor so that he is getting unpopular. He has tried bragging about his work, but that only seems to do the trick temporarily, but then people once again start to think that he is insecure and an easy target, maybe because he is depressed and doesn't bear himself like a multiply published writer, maybe because he doesn't share himself enough in that situation. Do you have any ideas that might help? Thanks, Hans

Does this count as a "general chat" thread? But I think I'll take some water, if that's available.

This is one of the oldest threads in this website. It will not let it die. I therefore invoke the tri-weekly necropost.

Hi just signed up. I write Short stories mostly set in my Web Comic. I have written some Fan Fiction and a Non Fiction piece on my experiences on 911. I think with some practice and good mentor-ship I may have a book in me. I am looking forward to learning Thank you.

How about shameless thread promotion? Like that asshole wondering if anyone has read "Albuquerque', in Non-fiction yet?

Or we could be nice. We could also talk about how my brain totally stopped working when I met an attractive young man who is going to be a doctor, is Jewish, and can read Hebrew.

A friend of mine suggested that I fake an injury so I have an excuse to go to the emergency room. Then I tell him I'm an angle that fell from heaven and need help. But even if I were willing to do that, it wouldn't work anyway, because his first rotation is in oncology. When I reported this to someone else, he said that it was worrisome that I put this much thought into it.

Nope. My brother is dyslexic and therefore put all his effort into learning English rather than Hebrew, seeing as we live in Canada and Hebrew will not help a person graduate high school as much as English, even if you go to a Jewish high school.

Other people just don't keep up with it after their Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

I am still single and will be for the foreseeable future. The man I mention got a bit awkward when I showed enthusiasm for Dr. Who and called myself a geek.

But there is an Omniverse of topics to discuss. Fun to be had. Experiences to relate. Where are all good hearts and bright minds of this age, and why do they eschew the quaint charms of the Coffee Shop on The Beat?

I desire libations and good company. Who will sit and dream with me?

"Rarely are what?" Said the waitress, wanting to know.

"In charge!" Whistled Brian, sure she would ask.

"Of what?" She said.

"Our thoughts... They keep rolling like a machine, a computer, plugging out the rhythm of life and becoming it, one thought at a time."

"I'm sorry sir, have you been drinking?"

"No... I'm out of coffee."

That girl is a 10 watt, but she fluffy n' fun, if you tip her well. Her sister's a bit more svelte, but she got a sharp tongue on her, but I like that, 'cause she really knows how to use it.

Hot chocolate with vanilla, babe. You know what I like, n' how I like it.

Yep. I goes on and on, my friends. It's like that ol' time rock n' roll. That kind of music just soothes the soul...

She poured Brian another cup, that smooth yellowy-brown elixir, the anesthetizer, the thought-stopper. That wicked magick potion, allowing him exactly opposite its reputation. A few moments of peace.

"Just stand here a minute," he said, "somehow I feel better when you're close to me."

"Excuse me sir?" Said the waitress, backing up a little. This guy was a few biscuits short.

"STOP!"

The other guests all looked up, prompting the manager to get involved. "Is there a problem Brian?" She asked.

"Not if this girl stays put."

"She has a job to do Brian, and you are not her only customer! In fact, you are not even a very good customer! You sit here all day drinking up the free coffee rarely even leaving an acceptable tip! You should be ashamed of yourself."

Brian took his wallet out, fiddling through the long pouch for a fifty and slapping it on the table. "There! Now can she stay?"

"I'm afraid that won't be possible," swept the administrator, slipping the bill into her breast pocket. "But this will almost cover your most recent transgressions."

"You know I'm trying to finish this novel, I just need a little inspiration," he swore.

"Don't we all, Brian, don't we all."

While chubbychaser BP creeps out his favorite waitress, Jimmy just winks at his hot lil' server and asks her if she likes Anas Nin, to which she gives him a speculative glance, doesn't say a word, but instead walks to the storage room door, looks over her shoulder, taking off her apron.

"Well, I'll be back. I gotta' help the lovely lass with a bit of heavy lifting."

"Jimmy, Jimmy, goddamned Jimmy! Always fornicating his manic-jibberish way into the spotlight; the searchlight. Shriveled little phallus always plucking the wiggle from the jiggle!" blurted Brian, before he could stop himself. It didn't really make sense.

"Will you keep it down Mr. Patrick!" hushed the manager.

"You've already taken away my muse, shit! How the hell do you expect me to finish this?"

"You'll have to respect the rules of the place like the rest of our customers."

"Your customers suck!" he spat.

The woman behind him turned slowly, eyes pulsing like an anime girl. "I suck," she said, and spun back around, long black hair pulled into a tight pony.

"You do?"

"Oh yes, she does." Jimmy can be heard to say from the storage room.

Then ponytail girl trips with a full pitcher of beer in her hand, tossing lager all over herself and BP, as she tumbles into his lap. However, this gaff makes her blouse immediately diaphanous. As she rolls over in his arms in chagrin, it is obvious the beer was very cold, which seems to facing tell and bemusement BP.

"Like I said, as a waitress, she sucks, but she has other charms that make up for her professional deficiencies." Jimmy murmurs over the sound of certain other labors in progress.
