Icon5 Is there a standard format?

Is there a standard format that I could convert my .odt files to that would allow me to copy/paste stories in the forums without losing my formatting?

What I write comes out looking like one giant block of text, which is hard to read, even though the formatting I use when I write is modelled after published books, with line returns after each speaker, and double lines between scenes.

My primary reason for asking is indentation, which provides visual markers when reading. Kind of important.

Having to manually reformat every time I post work is not a thrilling prospect, whether it is with hidden elipses or the (right)-(/right) trick, which would leave irregular indents and look sloppy.

I don't think so. The forum uses BB code for formatting, so you're probably best just copying in plain text and marking it up again in the editor.

Use line breaks instead of indents for paragraphs. So much easier.

Thank you for the reply. I am still holding out hope that a writers forum would have writing format friendly tools. :-)

Dang! Oh well. *Sulks off, muttering something about more stinking, distracting, formatting* lol

I foresee a lot of ugly big block posts in my future. :-)

Which we will either sweep up with our little brooms, or I will eat, as I'm always hungry, being guard dog and all.

Try using some of the buttons. Poems are hardest. So here's a poem.

This the "Code Tag ( # on the Advanced menu)
  SESTINA #3

My lips have lightened your breasts
You should be sobbing like clouds
You have dabbled your toes in my winter
Your flanks should be dappled with blood
I have given up smoking and drinking
Our windows should run with the rain

Your wings tear away in the rain
You fall with your hands to your breasts
Into the tears you've been drinking
                  Into the churning of clouds
  You have taken to blood
                  With the hunger of winter

With the set smile of winter
                  You run down like rain
  It comes down to blood
To your loins, to your breasts
  To the clouds
                  You are drinking

  You should be drinking
                  The wells of the winter
  Lapping drops off the clouds
                  Like fingers of rain
  Not squeezing your breasts
                  And licking their blood

There is more to that blood
                  Than the drinking
  Than the thawing of breasts
                  Or secretions of winter
There is much more to rain
Than just the filling of clouds

I could show you much more than these clouds
I could sing you more songs than your blood
I could stand and be still in the rain
But you just keep falling and drinking
  In the winter
Ice shining bright on the peaks of your breasts

Though all the rain you are drinking
Makes dark clouds in your blood
I can weather the winter that sleets through your breasts.

You are going through it line by line to REformat it using either the Code or HTML buttons?
It looks very uniform, so that's nice.

I may try that, or I may fiddle around with LibreOffice, or Kate or Gedit and see if I can find a way to auto-replace a Tab with a coding that the forum won't ignore.

Thank you for the suggestion and the resulting idea. :-)

No, I just pasted in a page from Word. Should work just as well with .odt cut/paste, if no, export it as .doc

Not the first one retained the font, the HTML defaulted to courier

Yeah, I use Libreoffice, and I use four-space indents to start new paragraphs which are, for some reason, changed to single-space indents when I paste sections of writing, or even when I add them in the text field post-paste.
I've even been advised to break up my writing to prevent text-blockitis, but whole-line paragraph breakers cause trouble because it looks too spaced out.
Grrr!
I'll just have to deal with it...

I Tab my indents, which has become a force of habit after all these years, so writing in the text field on vBulletin (and many other) sites can get comical.

It is a shame that the Indent function indents the whole paragraph instead of a line indent. lol I suppose that is an option, indent every other speaker. lol

Clearly I have been awake FAR too long.

I have started using styles for indents.
Formatting ebooks will get you in that habit pretty quick. And once you start doing it, it sure saves a lot of work when you make changes. And when you type for that matter.
