Default "Road Trip" Anthology Seeks Humor Submissions

My Funny Road Trip”, a humor anthology, seeks submissions of very funny writing related to surface travel.
This is the second anthology from "My Funny Books". Our first title, "My Funny Valentine" rose to number 15 among all amazon humor titles and we hope to build on that success with another book full of top writing.

We're looking for contemporary odysseys of domestic (though not necessarily domesticated) surface transport variety. You've been there, you've done this: trekking over the river and through the woods with insufferable offspring, piling into a crappy car with your college pals trying to be Hunter Thompson, putting in the miles to make cold calls on loser customers that are always wrong, jumping in the rig and just heading the hell out with Bruce Springsteen on the radio, pushing a semi full of junk from Tucson to Tucumcari with a handful of diet pills and a bunch of chimps on the CB, your own Donner Party Vacation Jaunt. There's a road, there's a trip, it's funny. Send it in.

Like many road trips, we have a pretty good idea where we're going and what we want, but are open to suggestions and interesting detours. We don't have real tight envelope on what submissions will be about, and try to have as few taboos and no-no's as we can get away with. (Aside from frowning on the usual suspects of course, like racism, attempts at subversion or evil domination, bestiality without consent, and Kardashians.)

We've found that pieces in these books work best when under 1800 words, but we're loose. Submissions are open until MayDay (and yes, that's thematic). Also a little flexible, but don’t make us tear our hair and hate you. If you don't do columns or shorts, but have a killer poem or cartoon or Sudoku puzzle about Funny Road Trips, give us a look.

In fact, we actively encourage humor in the form of "in the car activities". Remember the books your parents gave you to shut up and stop you from snatching your sister bald-headed in the back seat? With "clever" travel-related time-wasters? If you've got a funny puzzle or quiz or mind-messer in this theme, we'd love to take a look. Just remember it has to be readable in black and white at about 5 by 8 inches.

We offer no payment other than contributor copies. But we offer a lot of "value received" benefits and opportunities that a solid list of writers have found worth as much to them as a royalty check split forty ways. To see the sort of benefits we mean, take a look at this contributors' FAQ.

Funny road trip pieces: simple enough. Submissions close a minute before midnight on May 1, 2012. Getcher motor runnin', head out on the highway…

Please send submissions as text pasted into email to

BTW... If you're a very funny writer with a practically lethal piece about something other than road trips burning a hole in your hard drive, sign up for our email news sheet to be notified of our subsequent titles. And if you think that piece would fit into a themed book we haven't thought of yet, drop us a suggestion.
Hope you have something great for My Funny Road Trip, something that makes us spewcoffee and fall over.
Karla Telega and Lin Robinson
