Default Icarus & Helios

The World is a Prison
he thinks, he is
in love with Helios.

His heart long since having been
cast into the sky,
Gods determining his fate with
one golden arrow and a
string of blood.

The suns rays are all he craves,
Icarus dies every night, waiting to
be reborn in the morning light but

Helios has ascended,
he is never coming down and
although they both try reaching,
their fingers will never be able to
cover enough ground.

Icarus builds wings of
prayers and promises, made to
carry him back to his heart.

Helios burns too bright.
When Icarus strays too close
his faith begins to melt,
falling in a
shower of wax and feathers,
crashing, earthbound as all
mortal loves tend to be.

All Helios is capable of doing is
watching from his gilded
chariot,
a bright spot in the sky.

"Cover enough ground" seems odd considering that the distance between them is all air.

"shower of was and feathers" I've read and heard many descriptions of Icarus falling from the sky and this was a very refreshing take on it.

Lon Palmer,
You're totally right. Reading it now it does feel awkward to have that phrase there. I'll need to edit it!
Thanks so much!

I am just a tiny bit obsessed with Icarus recently and I LOVED the grandeur and mythology in this poem. It captures a world of fantasy and gods perfectly! I really enjoyed it

When you write "his faith begins to melt" the piece portrays the Word's way of expressing genius.
