Default Formatting Loophole

Paying attention, all you moderators? This is big news, and you might want to sticky it somewhere or something! I just found a way to keep your formatting (except for unique fonts) when pasting into Writer's Beat! That's right, no more manual paragraph breaks! The steps are as follows. Not sure if they'll work outside of Microsoft Word, as that's my program, but .rtf is .rtf, right?

1. Open your document.

2. Open the file menu, click, "Save as" and select "Rich Text Format" from the format menu (that's right below the name of the document box). Then hit the save button.

3. Go to "My Documents" and hunt about for a document that has the right name, and has an icon that's different from your others. If you right click it, select properties, and look at that window you'll be able to tell what format it is. I have my own computer set up to tell me format tags along with the document names, but that's a different story.

4. Once you've found your new rich text, open it up, then copy and paste into WB. Congratulations, you've now probably-most-likely-possibly saved yourself alot of formatting work!

Exciting, ain't it? Or am I just on the slow boat, and everybody else already knew about this and is snickering at me for getting so enthusiastic about it?

Testing, testing...

I’m writing this in MS Word. Hmm, let’s try paragraphs, shall we?
Indent here.
‘Nother indent. New font (courier)! Italics. Bold.
Okey dokey... lemme save this as Rich Text and give it a try.

Well? How is it? *hopeful look*

EDIT: Paragraph indents disappeared, but the other stuff stayed. And I didn't need to add or delete paragraph breaks. I say, Winterbite, you are a clever chap! *nods approvingly* This still won't help with variable indents, as in certain poetry, but it means less work for long pieces of prose. Thanks!

Well, the main point is indentation, isn't it? (sorry Winter!)

My main problem was that every one of my enters turned into two, leaving vast spaces between paragraphs. Every time I copy-pasted something I had to hit "Preview" to see how it would look, then hit "delete" after every paragraph. Annoying, actually. Winterbite's solution should make it much easier to post my Nine & Sixty Ways things, which I've pre-written in Word.

Your indents weren't saved? Nope, mine neither. Well, in any case, it looks like WB's formatting beast has lost a tooth or two.

Old news, but it might be good to bring this up again for newer members, but well done for figuring this out independently
*hands Winterbite a *
