Weird listing in references
I am translating a non-fiction book, and the author, who is inexperienced in matters of style, has listed his references in the order that they are cited in the text rather than the usual alphabetic order of author surnames. I have never seen this done, but before I tell the author to go back and correct it, I need to know whether his ordering is acceptable albeit unusual.
