Default Please Say Hello On Your Way In...

Very warm welcome if you're a new arrival. I've noticed several new names appearing in recent days. If you're a new face on the Beat, please use this introduction thread to tell us about yourself.

You've joined a writing site - so three words saying "Hi, i'm new" doesn't bode well for future literary prowess...

Couple of interesting paragraphs that will whet our appetite would be so appreciated. Think of it as speed dating...three minutes to tell us all the stuff that counts.

GO!

Never introduced myself. I figured people would get the essence soon enough...

Well, if I'd read this thread earlier it would've mercifully prevented me setting up my own long-winded introduction.

I get it, but the introductions don't mean that much to me.

This is a writing site -- and the writing speaks for itself.

I prefer to know if someone is fourteen years old and just starting to write lest I tear them a new one for spelling errors. I don't honestly think you can give critique that helps someone unless you know their level of writing experience.

There would be a vast difference between the mental benchmark that I hold your work to versus the standard I would expect from a novice or a youngster.

Relationships are built on information - for new people coming in, they may feel on the sidelines whilst we continue to banter and critique within old established groups. For me, it's nice to have an introduction to the name and find a common interest.

WB is lacking in critical numbers - to be honest Myers, I think it's important for this site's survival to start showing an interest in the new members before they drift away.

So many of them slip away unnoticed before they post anything at all...

I rarely look at introductions, but for retention purposes you're probably right.

I've noticed at least five or six new names register this week. I honestly wonder if joining is a spur of the moment thing sometimes - only a small percentage follow up with a post.

Lots of forums have areas you can't see unless you join.

Not too long ago, I was checking out music and songwriting forums -- once I got in, I decided it wasn't the place for me.

Could be something like that.
