Always wanted one of those deaf people guns.

You know, the kind that (when you pull the trigger) has a stick come out of the barrel with a flag that unfurls and has a big BANG on it.

I'm pretty much sick to death of the gun issue. I have a gun -- it's the .22 rifle I had when I was a kid. I got it mainly because of my grandfather on my mom's side -- they are all old-school southern and he thought every kind should have one. My friend's dad owned property out in the boondocks and we'd go out there and shoot at cans and ride dirt bikes -- not at the same time. I picked up a guitar at 14 and I don't think I shot the gun after that.

I have a good friend who own more guns than I can count -- Hunting rifles and at least 10 different kind of handguns. He's always trying to get me go to the firing range with him -- and I probably will at some point. There's no doubt -- shooting a gun is pretty fun.

I don't even own an American flag. My wife's a huge college football fan and she went to Auburn -- and she sometimes puts an Auburn flag out on game days.

My dad was Canadian -- we go up there quite a bit. It's funny to see how some of their flags are torn or faded -- even at the border where there are both flags flying together. That's something you don't see here. And it's odd, because Canadians put that flag or at least the maple leaf on everything -- they just don't have the reverence for the piece of cloth like we do.

Probably just more banalities, I guess. Oh well.

Had you posted the thread with an opinion of your own that I could agree or disagree with, I would have.

No one's allowed to mention flags here for fear of banners.

we could talk about the attempt to remove the confederate stars and bars from the state capital building in South Carolina because of this Roof shooting, or Hilary Clinton wanting to tighten up person to person gun sale laws, or maybe president Obama using the N-word on a web cast.

OK.

Massacres of innocents by people who legally own guns happens time and time again. It's an untenable situation in any advanced civilisation. More people are killed by legally owned guns than by illegal ones. Gun ownership needs to be curbed. Unless you're a republican, then it's not about guns but about big bad government pushing people around. I know gun ownership (banning of) is a contentious subject in the US, but how many more times are you willing to let this happen to maintain a freedom that is ultimately lethal?

The Confederate flag. It's a relic from a past nobody should be proud of. Get rid of it.

bite your tongue, you even try to take my confederate flag from
me and i'll throw this pan hot grits on you. (if you have ever been splashed with hot grits you'll understand that statement. They are worse than molten plastic.)

a lot of people around here compare the confederate flag to the 'don't tread on me' one.
I'm not one of them, I don't have a confederate flag, and more often the people flying it are just trying to get a rise or intimidate someone.

I can see some of it as a historic sort of deal. but it has to stop being used as a intimidation tactic before it can gain it's historic place.

it might be best if it was remove from state offices.

I to am tired of the whole gun deal. millions of people own guns and only a very, very, very, very, very few have massacred anyone. and people still blame the gun. why can't we just blame the criminal that carries out the attack.

Max

more people are killed by guns then by any other object/manual subject full stop.
flags however are a derogatory status that says one is ready for war.

Except the French flag! That says you're eager for peace.

True, but when you add in domestic violence, gang violence, accidental deaths (children and adults), and suicide, it's a much bigger number.

the number is still a very, very, very, small percentage

but,

domestic violence - ban kitchen knives next

gang violence - I doubt those guns are legal

accidental deaths - ban other things like cars and trains and areo-planes, accident happen and if you know how to use a gun the accident possibility goes down greatly.

suicide, really, how many way are there to commit suicide if you're really serious.

but good news the governor of South Carolina has called for the confederate flag to be remove from state building.

we'll see.

Isn't the true issue not how we are killing each other (and ourselves) but why we are yadda yadda?

Personally, if I'm going to be killed, I just as soon get shot than stabbed or beaten with baseball bat etc. I don't see that it's such a big deal.

You've got to admit the name is clever -- it's stone -- and it's a mountain.
