Default Horde Mind

Rider comin' up behind me

Ragged ear pony shows message is important

As he draws alongside
I
indicate food in my saddlebag
hand across the reins
and

jump

So, Nick, is this about how Genghis Khan kept communication going in his vast empire by edicting that when a rider was transporting info all Mongols were charged with providing assistance?

Yes, Mr. Pierce, it is.

Okay. But why is the pony ragged eared?

When a rider ran out of grub and his pony was still able to run the rider would chew on the ear to get blood flowing thereby gaining some sustenance to stay in the saddle, Mr. Pierce.

Oh.
Thanks, Nick.

Anytime, Pierce.

And the title, Nick, Horde Mind- is that an allusion to the concept of Hive Mind ?

Ahh, Pierce old sot, I do believe you are beginning to know how to read me.

I know what you mean, Lon. There was a time when I also felt like I didn't fit in.

It may not be the path for you but, for what it is worth, I found the only thing to do is keep going.

Not to say I always feel I fit in now, mind you, but I have covered a lot of ground.

And from the experiences along the way I am often able to draw sustenance.

Good luck.

And apologies to mods for having veered off (poem) topic.

Well, best I start walkin' back to my ger now.

Not for naught that a bike's engine's energy is rated in horsepower.

Uhh, 'ragged ear pony, reins' were not equine indicators?

I was leaning towards the Pony Express but your further explanations eliminate the mysteries which remained in that direction.

Those would be some well trained ponies.

Hey, Mr. Pierce.

Yes, Nick?

Do you think I should point out that the space between the final full stanza and the final word jump is to let the reader take the leap with the rider?

Well, Nick, sometimes it is useful to simply let things move as they will.

Oh. Okay. Thanks.

Truth be told, I write to express the message before it burns a hole through my gut with its hot radiating irrepressible pulsations to get clear of its germination area.

Phew. I need a cigarette now.
