Fast food is not food, in the traditional way we think of food. It is food that is raised and processed in such a way as to render it flavorless, then pumped full of things which fool our taste buds into thinking we're eating something good, and our eyes into believing it's healthy.

Have you ever heard of "mechanically separated chicken" (or any other kind of meat)? It's what they get when they take a carcass that has had all of the edible parts removed, and run it through a machine which, using a kind of rotating wire wheel, whips any remaining bits of cartilage, gristle, and fat off of it.

This gunk is cooked down to a paste, things are added to achieve the proper texture, and it goes into a machine which spits out chunks of material with a chicken-like texture and, with the addition of artificial flavoring agents, fools your taste buds into thinking you are eating something you are not.

The hamburgers are full of fillers to keep then from falling apart when such a ridiculously thin patty is cooked, packaged, and tossed around by you on your way home. Ever wonder why a fast food hamburger holds together well enough to use for a boot patch, if you needed to, when a hamburger you make at home from ground beef doesn't? It's not how you cooked it, it's the material they added to glue it together.

The milk shakes are a laboratory-concocted brew of chemicals designed to provide consistency and, once again, to fool your taste buds into believing you are eating food, when you're not.

I'd much rather (and I do) keep the money in my pocket and go home and make something real to eat. That way I know where it all came from, I'm healthier, and I'm ten bucks farther away from the poorhouse.

One of my greatest heroes, Stephen Fry, once said words to the effect of, and yes I will use quotation marks despite being incorrect "The infantilisation of society is real, you are welcome to watch films, but why choose to watch superheroes whilst slurping sugary mush?"

I could not agree more.
