But that could backfire in a capitalist economy, or it could open a whole new world.

Okay, Iím yanking your chain a bit, but I donít agree that humans canít move into larger pools of association than countries or physical borders. I agree that itís how we evolved, but humans have proven themselves in their ability to adapt over and over again. This could be our Cambrian Explosion. In fact, it has to be or we will probably make ourselves extinct.
um, thereís no division ... the essence of humanity, of being human - if you will, applies to us all. There is no division intellectually ... all our brains being highly malleable, and thatís the thing. Humanity, the quality of being humane is vulnerable to dramatic change, do you ever wonder at what it will mean to be human in a decade or two?

There is division in wealth though, wealth could certainly create a sub species with all kinds of implantable computer interfaces, sickly at that but reckon if you go down that avenue it isnít conducive to humanity.

I goof about people being stupid, but the truth is most of them arenít. Only a modest percentage are intellectually incapable of understanding at least basic concepts, articulated in the right way. And all people are valuable. The ones that canít look after themselves should be looked after (but, with respect and dignity), and I see the world eventually going that way. It looks bleak now, but all transitions look bleak.
mm, the thing is bri ... perhaps weíre just old school romantics, old school humankind ... shrugs

Weíre going down that avenue whether we like it or not, and if we in the west decide to keep the brakes on, our planet-mates in china and elsewhere will not. My choice is to enjoy the ride. Sounds like a simple cliche, but I think itís the most valuable human attribute.

Iíve no idea what humanity will look like in 20 years. Itís fascinating to think about, but Pandoraís box is open and we canít shut it now. In fact, I think the box has always been open, the Greeks just made a notation along the way.

Censoring humans is like trying to hide a ticking time-bomb in your gym bag. Might work for a while but it always blows eventually.

lol, not sure you got enough money for that ride ...

mm, much depends on community, belonging, that sitting round the fire, the framing of our reality and the reality framing of humans is becoming fantasy.

weíve never simply enjoyed the ride though have we, thatís what distinguishes us from other forms of life, the ability to think out of the box, but the camp fire in its many guises kind of kept us grounded.

(re: post #30)I used to feel the same way, about all people being valuable and able to understand basic concepts, but following politics in the limited amount that I have over the last few years has led me to believe that there are more useless eaters out there than we would wish.

Yes, but I was not talking about the useless eaters. Those arenít the people that move the world. Humans in general wonít be subjugated for long because some smart, motivated fucker will come along and push a hole in the boundaries. Then once the hole is open, lots of useless eaters will flood in.

People aren't valuable, they are just bags of meat, when AI takes over, they will farm us like they already farm Brian

Brian, would it appear disturbing if I kidnapped you? I mean wrote you a poem?

You need to write me a half finished poem about love lost (for your story.)

Donít care what your motivation is. Just make sure itís good. You might want to start a thread for it. Iíve a feeling youíll need several attempts to get it good enough to appear in one of my stories.
