Default Poetry Forum Guidelines

Posting Work

Everyone desires to have their work read and reviewed, but that does not mean that you have to overflow the forum with your poems. Post threads with moderation: don't post more than three pieces a week; no more than one a day.

If your work is of an adult nature, post it in the Adult Content forum not here.

Critiquing Works

Don’t be concerned about giving critiques or whether they are going to be lacking in worth; not everyone is born a full-fledged critic. You are a reader and the author did not post their poem if they did not want your comments in the first place. No critique is looked upon as “lame” or “feeble”, everyone wants to learn here.

Avoid one liners and two-word critique—it means that you didn’t take the time to thoroughly read the work. Besides, when you give a good critique—not matter how useful it is—then chances are that you are going to receive a good one too.

Your comments should be constructive and aimed at the work, not the author. Negative comments that do not aid the work are not tolerated by anyone.

Getting a Critique

Remember: critique other works in order to have your work critiqued. Frequent the forum and get a feel of the works posted. Stop and review some of the poems before posting your own. By doing so, you will prove that you are dedicated and it will also insure that people will read your work.

When someone critiques you work, reply to them. Be friendly and approach people with a good attitude; all of us are humans here.

Let members know who you are. Go the Writer's Cafe and play some of the board games. Interacting with the community is the guarantor to get your work reviewed.

If you didn't get a critique within 10 days of posting, you are welcomed to let us know by replying to the Had No Critiques thread. You can also privately message one of the staff critics.

No form of plagiarism will be tolerated. You are allowed to post other people's poems for analysis, but you are not allowed to claim any part of someone else's work as your own. The first offense of this nature will warrant a warning. The second a 3 day forum-ban. The 3rd a 7 day forum-ban. Any subsequent infractions will be dealt with as they happen. For more information please review Plagiarism & Copyright.

As always, please contact a staff member if you have any complaint/suggestion. We ask you to report anything you deem inappropriate; the moderators will take care of it immediately.
