Default Common street names for Legal Highs (UK Law)

I'm writing a drug and alcohol policy for work and need to reference some legal highs - legal according to UK law only.

Trouble is what was legal last week will be illegal next week. Meow meow - aka mephodrone is a case in point. Also the names of these things change from region to region.

I need at least three names, the only one I can come up with so far is Poppers.

I have tried to research this. But on the internet (bearing in mind these are sites I can access in a work environment and are not band by a very stringent firewall) reputable news and information sites refer to legal highs as that, but won't give names for obvious reasons that they don't want to encourage or assist anyone in taking harmful substances.

Any help is appreciated.

So... by "legal highs" do you mean pills?

Try this-

I don't really know about the UK, but a couple of these are legal here I believe.

By legal highs I mean they are not banned substances, but also, by law, cannot be advertised as suitable for human consumption. I recently learned dealers ofter refer to them as pond cleaner or plant food.

They induce a chemical high similar to banned drugs, such as cocaine, but it is not illegal to be found with on your person. They are, however still very harmful and can be fatal.

Ahh... Whipits are one that I know of. Where you inhale the compressed air, which I think is NO2, out of a can of whipped cream, or ready cream.

Interesting name give the origin of the gas. However, here that would be considered, I believe, as a form of solvent abuse and therefore not quite what I was looking for.

But thank you

It varies - I did a wicked event last month for Health and Lifestyle. I'm currently enforcing fire safety, amending the drug and alcohol policy and desiging a driver safety computer based training course. All good stuff.

First two weeks of January however are end of year reporting - snoresville!

Why not go past your local Police station, explain what you are doing and ask them.

Salvia is similar to pot and isn't illegal in Canada. Could be worth checking.

It's actually a hallucinogenic. So, not very similar. But "spice" is legal, in at least one of its many forms, and is extremely similar to pot.

Sniffing glue or paint-thinner makes you high (and, y'know, can kill you or ruin your brain), but I don't know UK slang terms for it.

The Uk term for paint and glue sniffing is; doing a Redlorry. Not only does it give the user a temporary high but it is also know to be a great laxative. Users have died from dehydration. Be careful.

I will give you a laxitive sir!

Actually we found a couple of names, the only one I can recall now is Silver Bullet.

We refer to paint and glue sniffing in the UK as solvent abuse. What Gaines just did was Mod abuse! Watch it sunshine
