Default Yesterday and Today

today
today
today

will soon be yesterday
will soon be history
will soon be fixed
unchangable

what will i do today
that i have not done
yesterday
or ever before?

the grass grows green
in the same place
as the year before

the tree still swells
in its cycle

the waves still crash
the same rocks
in the shallows

what can i do
but what i've done before?
am I too fixed?
unchangable?

this raises an interesting point. I'm always telling myself that I have to change and adapt and develop to changing circumstances, but I'm afraid I can't.
thanks for the thought!

Nice introspective piece.

I am a killer for symmetry and I personally prefer to stick to x amount of lines per stanza.

Regardless, insightful. Thanks for the read.

Thank you Nadja. I'm glad you could relate in such a way.

Thanks Andy. I know what you mean. I used to be such a stickler for four line stanzas. When I would read other writers' poems, if they weren't the same number of lines per stanza it would bother me. So I feel your pain brother

(Excuse me, Fegger, I love you )

On another note - I quite like this. As Nadja says, it makes you aware of your own passage through time and touches on our fear of inertia. Love the fact you don't bother with capitals and have mirrored symmetry between the first 'today's and the first 'will's. It's pleasant to look at.

Hmmm... Nice and clever, you are. Probably put to words thoughts going through each of our minds. I sure know those are thoughts that accompany me daily. I try so much to change and never to look back, but when I snap and I do look back it hits me hard, the realization that in these years I've struggled towards a better future, the same people and the same mistakes and the same words haunt me and repeat their appeareance in my life incessantly. If only we had the opportunity to hold our necks still and keep looking forward. Thanks so much for the read, stellarworld :]
