Default The Desert

My senior year at school
I walked into a desert
It left me high and dry
15 years to cross it
I found an oasis
But the water hole dried
Back to the desert
At age 39

The Desert's relentless
The sun beats down
Scorpions and lizards
Snakes all around
The Desert's a killer
Ain't got no shade
Joshua trees and cacti
You just sleep all day

Somewhere in my 50s
I met a gal named Veda
She sang all my tunes
And I came to need her
When the money ran low
She left me deserted
Left me for lonely
Lost in The Desert

The Sahara
Kalahari
Atacama
The Gobi

The Desert's relentless
The sun beats down
Scorpions and lizards
Snakes all around
The Desert's a killer
Ain't got no shade
Joshua trees and cacti
You just sleep all day

At 71
I'm still moving on
There's a river ahead
And it's not a mirage
