Default Intellectual?

Maybe we should come up with a more realistic name for the "Intellectual Table"?

New members are bound to be disappointed by the lack of intellect on display there. How about "Bigots R Us" or "Vent Your Spleen Here"?

Another forum I belong to calls it the “fight club”

And if you get out of hand your forum privileges get reduced to access to only one thread called purgatory.

Not this old saw.

Historically, it seems like the people who question the name are some of the least quantified judge.

Quantified?

A basic grasp of grammar might be a start.

People who disagree with me a chauvinists and bigots.

I don't need facts or arguments I've got sarcasm and eye rolls.

PS Tories are scum.

It's cute, but it doesn't work.

Not a typo, a semantic error.

Doesn't bother me. It's the usual leftist stuff lifted out of the Guardian.

Nasty greedy chauvinist white male capitalists are the source of all my problems. Not that long ago I used to buy that line.

And maybe they are, who knows. But this argument is being lost due to a continuous reliance on emotional platitudes with very little regard for coherence. To put it another way, just calling people names is failing the cause of modern liberals and you owe it to yourselves to do better.

There is a caricature of an SJW (clue, emotional attacks, aversion to facts, victimhood complex), just as there is of the 'alt right' (Nasty greedy chauvinist white male capitalist). It's best not to fit these molds if you can help it.

Heh. Right -- because it's so obvious that I wouldn't know the difference between qualified and quantified.

And as much as we should value proper grammar and word choices on a writing site, so should we value creativity and some attempt at originality -- or at least an avoidance of the obvious -- for example, some variation of "why is this called the intellectual table...?

Har har har!

At the very least, you should have injected a little self-deprecation into the O.P., because without it -- it really backfires on you.

And sorry -- I hope you were able to muddle through my mangled grammar etc.

Put your mosh-pit combat boots on and pierce your nose with a safety pin and get in here (the intellectual table)! It’s great fun.

I accomplish more when I aim for utter stupidity. When I fuck that up --and I usually do-- I'm left with something that's accidentally smart. Sometimes I land smack dab in the middle of stupidity and that' fine too. I'm kind of like one of those people you see at Walmart, who leave of the crack of their ass showing. No matter how bad things are you feel a little superior for a while when you see Mr. AssCrack. So, even that has purpose (making everyone else feel better about themselves). Guess I'm saying intellectualism is overrated. Given the choice, I'd much rather be that guy on a shrimp boat. Then, my old army buddy can invest in me in a fruit company... or something.

Maybe "The Stupidity Forum" would be more apt?

Please feel free to make suggestions.

Happy Accidents.... When you think about it, weren't most of history's "inventions" actually fuck-ups that were supposed to be something completely different? Cornflakes were invented by accident, the telephone... and they were searching for a cure for hemorrhoids when they discovered peanut butter.

Peanut butter isn't a cure for haemorhoids???? Now he tells me.

And what were cornflakes the cure for? I always reckoned muesli was invented when someone cleaned under their fridge.

The Philosopher's Basement?

When ever this topic comes up there is the always stock answer "If you don't like it then just stay out of it", Or just realize that is is what it is.

Thanks for the poll, Mo, but I never said I didn’t like it. Nothing is more entertaining than a wander round the zoo, even if the stench of shit makes you sick.

Monkeys is a derogatory word where I come from. Apes. We're chimpanzees. I've dissec-- I've studied many of your human ani- species, and only found two with the capacity for logic and reason.

I guess I'm no the only one that has noticed the zoo stench. I even asked one of the animal attendants what the hell that smell was. I mean it smells like ass and peanut butter. He agreed but swore they didn't give peanut butter to the animals.

He said it was more noticeable when a bus load of tourists, mostly foreigners toured the zoo. According to him the mess they leave in the restrooms is horrific. Empty jars of crunchy peanut butter all over the place. He even went to far as to suggest they used the crunchy to exfoliate with.

Must be a foreign thing.
